Mason City First Baptist Church is one of the oldest churches in Custer County.  We have been around as long as Mason City has been a town.  We are an independent Baptist Church.  We love to partner with other like minded churches and organizations to help spread the Gospel in Custer and Sherman Counties and to the ends of the world.  Below is a brief description of our long history.

1877  Custer County was organized and the first settlers started homesteading the area.

1881  Oak Springs Baptist Church started in a small sod schoolhouse 1 mile north of Mason City.

1884  Sod church built 1 ½ miles northwest of Mason City.

1886  The railroad comes through Custer County and Mason City is platted and becomes a town.  The church is reorganized as the First Baptist Church of Mason City.

1888  First church building built in Mason City.

1892  The church building was destroyed by a tornado.

1893  A new church building was erected 1 block north and east of current location.

1912  A south addition was added to the church building.

1931 50th Anniversary Celebration

1956  75th Anniversary Celebration

1970  New church building erected at the current location on Prentiss St.

1981  100th Anniversary Celebration.

2020  Afte filling in for a few years, Pastor Scott Harvey was installed as the pastor at the end of the Covid Pandemic.

2022  Groundbreaking ceremony for church addition that will include a new sanctuary and offices.

2025  The first service in the new sanctuary was on Easter Sunday.  The building was dedicated on June 1st.  The majority of the construction was done by volunteer labor from the church.  The building was completely paid off at the time of completion.  We are excited that God still wants to use our church for His glory even after 144 years of existence.
